Halloween attractions ramp up all month, the Calgary International Film Festival wraps its run, Thanksgiving weekend fills up with family events, and pumpkin patches across the region hit their peak. Every month we spend hours searching for the best Calgary local and fun events for the whole family so that you don’t have to! Here’s what’s on.

October 1-31

  • Calgary Ghost Walks @ Various venues, Calgary; Tickets: $15 and up. Evening walking tours through the mischief, mayhem, and murders of Calgary’s history.
  • Haunted Historic Inglewood @ Various locations, Inglewood, Calgary; Tickets: free and ticketed events. A month-long Halloween takeover of Calgary’s original main street with eerie pop-ups and spooky programming throughout October.
  • The Crypt & The Crow @ TOPS Pizza South, 9919 Fairmount Drive SE, Calgary; Tickets: Free. An immersive Halloween pop-up transformation inside a south Calgary pizza shop.
  • Train of Terror @ Aspen Crossing, Mossleigh, AB (about an hour southeast of Calgary); Tickets: $66.66-$119.99 + fees. Canada’s only moving haunted house, aboard a real train.

October 9-31

  • ScreamFest @ GMC Stadium, 2200 Stampede Trail SE, Calgary; Select dates (Oct 9, 10, 16, 17, 22-25, 29-31), 7 PM-midnight, October 22 is Adult Night (18+); Tickets: $35-$75 + fees and taxes, with General Admission, Killer Cash Combo, Zombie House Combo, Speedpass, and Speedpass Combo tiers. Canada’s largest and scariest Halloween event, with seven haunted houses, a slingshot ride, horror movie screenings, and the Midway of Mayhem.

October 1-10

  • ZooDunnit (18+): Extinction Event @ Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo, 210 St. George’s Drive NE, Calgary; Tickets: $94 + GST. A live murder mystery game held after-hours among the zoo’s exhibits.
  • Campus Derby Day @ Century Downs Racetrack and Casino, 260 Century Downs Drive, Rocky View County; Tickets: $15 + fees. An evening of live horse racing with student perks and prizes.

  • Pumpkin Palooza @ Cobb’s Adventure Park, 1500 84th Street NE, Calgary; Runs through October 25; Tickets: $21.95 and up. A full pumpkin patch experience with photo ops and carving pumpkins to take home.

  • YYC Pizza Fest @ Various restaurants, Calgary; Tickets: varies by restaurant. Local pizzerias compete with original recipes for a good cause, with charity and community built into the event.

  • Steve Hackman’s Beethoven X Beyoncé @ Jack Singer Concert Hall, 225 8 Ave SE, Calgary; Tickets: $34.50-$120.50. An inventive orchestral mashup fusing Beethoven’s symphonies with Beyoncé’s catalogue.

  • Pumpkin Drop @ Alice Sanctuary, Calgary area; Tickets: check Alice Sanctuary’s site for current pricing. A giant pumpkin is dropped and smashed for charity, supporting the animal sanctuary.

October 30-31

  • Frights & Delights: Halloween at The Confluence @ The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland, 750 9 Avenue SE, Calgary; Tickets: check theconfluence.ca for current pricing. More than a Halloween market, with two nights of frightfully good times for all ages where the rivers meet in downtown Calgary.
  • Calgary’s Haunted Hop: Halloween Bar Crawl @ GRETA Bar YYC, 213 10 Ave SW, Calgary, and other Beltline bars; Friday & Saturday 8 PM; Tickets: $18, 18+. A two-night Halloween bar crawl through the Beltline, one wristband covering four or more bars.

October 31

  • Modern Steak Halloween Party @ Modern Steak, Stephen Avenue location, 100 8 Ave SE, Calgary; Tickets: $125, adults-only. A fancy, upscale Halloween dinner-dance party at the steakhouse. Modern After Dark is taking over all three floors of Modern Steak on Stephen Avenue this Halloween for a 25+ evening of wine, food, music and costumes. Your ticket includes tastings of 30 wines, passed canapés and charcuterie, plus access to three different music experiences: open format on the main floor, old school on the second floor, and ’90s and 2000s dance hits on the enclosed rooftop. Costumes are encouraged, with a $1,000 cash prize for Best Costume. The event runs Saturday, October 31 from 8 PM to midnight, with tickets available through OpenTable Experiences.
