Here’s what’s on around the city this month.

September 4-6

• BBQ on the Bow @ Shriners Stables, 5151 101 St NW, Calgary; Public event Saturday, September 5, 11 AM-7 PM; Tickets: Free. Canada’s oldest sanctioned BBQ competition turns 35 this year, with more than 30 teams competing for a $10,000 prize purse alongside live music and family activities.

September 4-7

• Fiesta Filipino @ Eau Claire Plaza, 101 Barclay Parade SW, Calgary; Friday 3-10 PM, Saturday & Sunday 10 AM-10 PM, Monday 10 AM-6 PM; Tickets: Free. Western Canada’s largest Filipino festival marks its 12th year with over 300 local performers, 15+ food vendors, and cultural exhibits.

September 4-5

• How to Train Your Dragon 2 in Concert @ Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, 1415 14 Ave NW, Calgary; Friday 7:30 PM, Saturday 2:30 PM; Tickets: $35-$100. The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra performs John Powell’s score live while the film plays in HD, a family-friendly night at the movies with a full orchestra.

September 5

• Calgary VegFest @ Sunalta Community Association and Hub, 1627 & 1639 10 Ave SW, Calgary; Tickets: by donation at the door, all ages welcome. Presented by the Calgary Vegan Society, with plant-based food trucks, live entertainment, and speakers in support of sustainable food and living.

September 6

• Undertale: The Determination Symphony @ Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, 1415 14 Ave NW, Calgary; 8:00 PM; Tickets: check Ticketmaster for current pricing. A 25-piece orchestra brings the beloved video game’s soundtrack to life with gameplay footage on the big screen.

September 8

• First Métis Man of Odesa @ Martha Cohen Theatre, Werklund Centre, 215 8 Ave SE, Calgary; Runs September 8-27; Tickets: $30-$99. Theatre Calgary opens its 2026-27 season with this real-life love story performed by the couple who lived it, set against the backdrop of the pandemic and the war in Ukraine.

September 11

• Chinatown Lantern Festival @ Chinatown, 2nd Ave SW & Daqing Square (west of the Chinese Cultural Centre), Calgary; 4-11 PM; Tickets: Free. Confirmed for September 11 by both the Calgary Chinatown BIA’s own calendar and independent event listings. Lantern displays, local vendors, and food trucks mark the Mid-Autumn Festival in the heart of Chinatown.
• Zoo Brew @ Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo, 210 St. George’s Drive NE, Calgary; Evening event; Tickets: $99-$139. Craft beer and food tasting evening at the zoo, 18+.

September 11-12

• Franco Festival Calgary @ Prince’s Island Park, Calgary; Tickets: Free. A celebration of Calgary’s Francophone community with music, food, and film.

September 11-13

• Monster Jam @ GMC Stadium, 1410 Olympic Way SE, Calgary; Friday 7 PM, Saturday & Sunday 3 PM; Tickets: from $37.50, Pit Party $20, meet-and-greet $50. Twelve-thousand-pound trucks compete in racing, freestyle, and two-wheel skills events at Stampede Park.
• Indian Classical Music Festival @ Rozsa Centre, University of Calgary, 2500 University Dr NW, Calgary; Tickets: check rozsacentre.ucalgary.ca for pricing. Three nights of Indian classical music performances.

September 12

• Springbank Old Tyme Fall Fair @ Springbank Park For All Seasons, 32224A Springbank Road, Calgary; 10 AM-4 PM; Tickets: Free. The 54th annual fair with a vendor market in the marquee tent, an agriculture and horticulture bench show, a kid zone, food trucks, and a beer garden.
• Something Wondrous @ Taza Park Sales & Marketing Centre, 5894 Tsuut’ina Pkwy, Tsuut’ina Nation; Tickets: Free. Southern Alberta’s Indigenous Music Festival returns with a lineup of Indigenous musicians and cultural programming.
• Calgary Wild FC vs. Halifax Tides FC @ McMahon Stadium, 1817 Crowchild Trail NW, Calgary; Tickets: from $27. Northern Super League women’s pro soccer.

September 12-13

• Calgary Cat Festival and Market @ Contemporary Calgary, 701 11 St SW, Calgary; Saturday 11 AM-7 PM, Sunday 11 AM-5 PM; Tickets: early bird $12 general admission, $10 youth (13-17), free for kids 12 and under. A feline-themed weekend with a vendor market, adoption alley, puzzle tournaments, and a cat-themed painting workshop, with proceeds supporting local animal rescues.
• Saskatoon Farm Harvest Market @ Saskatoon Farm – Head to The Saskatoon Farm in Foothills County on September 12-13 for a family-friendly fall market celebrating the harvest season. The two-day event features more than 80 local vendors, fresh farm-grown produce and pumpkins, live music, wagon rides, games, and competitions. The farm’s restaurant, bakery, and Red House will also be open with handmade meals, snacks, and sweet treats. Admission is $9 plus fees when purchased online in advance, and kids 10 and under are free.

September 13

• Calgary’s Taste of Italy Festival @ Bridgeland Riverside Community Association, 917 Centre Ave NE, Calgary; 11 AM-7 PM; Tickets: Free. A celebration of Italian food, music, and culture featuring pizza-making contests, a classic Italian car show, and live entertainment.
• University District Block Party @ University District Retail Main Street & Central Commons Park, Calgary; Tickets: Free. A family- and pet-friendly street party celebrating the neighbourhood’s Retail Main Street.
• RBC Race for the Kids @ Heritage Park, 1900 Heritage Dr SW, Calgary; Tickets: $0-$45. Marking its 10th year in Calgary, a family-friendly 6 km run or walk along the Glenmore Reservoir supporting youth mental health, with a pancake breakfast and full day of park access.
• Run for Life @ North Glenmore Park, Calgary; Tickets: Free. A pop-up community gathering on the final day of the Run for Life series.
• Phil in the Park @ Prince’s Island Park, 698 Eau Claire Ave SW, Calgary; Tickets: Free. A free community concert from the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra – bring a blanket and picnic.

September 18

• Calgary’s Traditional Oktoberfest Party @ Grey Eagle Event Centre, on the Grey Eagle Resort & Casino property, Calgary; Friday and Saturday, September 18-19, doors 4-5 PM; Tickets: $40 per person plus fees, 18+. An authentic Bavarian beer hall experience with live music from the Brabec Brothers, a stein-holding competition, and a complimentary 1-litre stein of Hofbräu beer with admission.

September 18-19

• Rocky Mountain Wine & Food Festival @ Spruce Meadows, 18011 Spruce Meadows Way SW, Calgary; Friday 5:30-10 PM, Saturday 12-4 PM and 6-10 PM; Tickets: from $32.53, 18+ event. One of Alberta’s largest wine, spirits, and craft beverage events makes its debut at its new Spruce Meadows location, paired with bites from local restaurants.

September 19-20

• Fall Harvest Sale @ BMO Centre, 20 Roundup Way SE, Calgary; Saturday 10 AM-4:30 PM, Sunday 10 AM-3 PM; Tickets: $8 plus fees for single-day entry, $14 plus fees for a weekend pass. The Calgary Produce Marketing Association’s annual charitable sale of discounted fruits and vegetables, with proceeds supporting the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation and other local charities. Bring a wagon.

September 20

• Terry Fox Run Calgary @ The Confluence (formerly Fort Calgary), 750 9 Ave SE, Calgary; Registration 9 AM, run starts 11 AM; Tickets: Free, donations encouraged. A non-competitive 1 km, 5 km, or 10 km community run/walk along the Bow River Pathway supporting cancer research, with dogs welcome on leash.

September 23

• Dumpling Fest Calgary @ Self-guided tour starting in the Sunnyside/Kensington area, Calgary; 5-9 PM; Tickets: starting around $54.61. A self-guided evening food tour through a selection of Calgary restaurants serving tasting plates of dumplings from around the world, including Chinese soup dumplings, Korean mandu, and Mexican empanadas.

September 24-26

• Night Light @ Victoria Park, anchored at Central Memorial Park, 1221 2 St SW, Calgary; 6-11 PM nightly; Tickets: Free. Three nights of large-scale light installations, projection mapping, and live performances transform the Beltline into a walkable outdoor art gallery.

September 25-27

• Calgary Fall Home Show @ BMO Centre, Halls E and F, 20 Roundup Way SE, Calgary; Friday 12-8 PM, Saturday 10 AM-8 PM, Sunday 10 AM-6 PM; Tickets: adults (13+) $14, discounted for seniors, free for kids under 13 (this is the fall counterpart to the Calgary Home + Garden Show, which runs in February/March). Over 200 exhibitors covering renovation, design, and outdoor living, plus a Homemade & Homegrown Hub of local makers and a live on-site mural project.
