Why Maven is One of the Best Brunch Spots in Calgary

Breakfast in Tokyo and Eggs Benny with Prosciutto & Mozzarella
If you’re on the hunt for an unforgettable brunch in Calgary, Maven on 17th Avenue is an absolute must-try. As someone who’s been to countless brunch spots across the city, I can confidently say Maven consistently delivers top-notch food, cozy vibes, and an experience that keeps you coming back.
What Makes Maven Special?
From the moment you walk in, Maven feels like a calm retreat—lush greenery, warm wood tones, and a relaxed, non-pretentious atmosphere. Whether you’re meeting friends, bringing your kids, catching up with a client, or just taking time for yourself, this space feels like home. It’s casual yet stylish, making it perfect for any occasion.
The Food: Consistently Delicious
The menu at Maven is a creative twist on brunch classics with international influences. Think:
-
- Salmon and cool Italian eggs benedicts
- Fluffy pancakes and French toast with seasonal features
- Singapore-style congee
- Tokyo-style breakfasts
- Their legendary fry bread with cream—trust me, you have to try it. It’s sooo goood!

Fry Bread with Cream aka the best donut bread with cream + berries, jam + much more
My personal favorites include their fried bread with cream, berries, and jam, which tastes like the most heavenly donuts/European ponchiki. Their seasonal French toast specials (Gingerbread French Toast!)—especially during the holidays—are always a treat, and I highly recommend anything with salmon on the menu. The Breakfast in Tokyo is my go-to.

They rotate their menu several times a year, so there’s always something new to try.
Drinks Worth Trying

Maven also nails their specialty drinks. Their London fog, lattes, matcha lattes, and seasonal beverages are consistently excellent. Whether you’re a latte lover or just in the mood for something sweet, there’s something here for you.
Bonus: It’s Also a Plant Shop
As if the brunch wasn’t enough, Maven doubles as a plant shop! After your meal, you can browse their selection of beautiful greenery and maybe take home a new leafy friend. It’s such a cool, unexpected addition that adds to Maven’s charm (it’s in the back of the restaurant).

-
Check their Instagram for seasonal features and special dinner nights.

Maven accepts reservations Monday through Friday via ToastTable (just google “Maven Calgary” and when you see their Google Business Page, click on “Join Waitlist”). On weekends, they operate on a walk-in basis only and utilize a waitlist system to manage seating. Given its popularity during weekend brunch hours, it’s advisable to join the waitlist early to minimize your wait time.

Salmon Spinach Eggs Benny
Maven is hands down one of my Top 10 brunch spots in Calgary. The food is chef-driven and consistently amazing. The atmosphere is welcoming and beautiful. It’s a place that never disappoints—and that’s a rare find.
And here’s a fun fact: Maven, Brekkie, and Sammy are all owned by the same incredible team. So if you’re craving more chef-crafted brunch, you can trust that Brekkie (in West Springs (near Aspen Woods) and Sammie Cafe (in Marda Loop) will deliver the same quality, creativity, and comfort. Whether you’re in the mood for matcha, eggs benny, or something bold and globally inspired—you can’t go wrong with any of the three.
Whether you’re a local or just visiting Calgary, put Maven on your brunch list. You won’t regret it.
