Lest We Forget: Remembrance Day Ceremonies in Calgary – November 11, 2019

This is a summary of some major Remembrance Day services in the City of Calgary. You may also find smaller community-based services at the Royal Canadian Legions or community centres.

Field of Crosses Service

Honour those who have fallen at the Field of Crosses service. Public parking is available at the west end of the park. You can also park in the area of Eau Claire and walk across the footbridge.

The Hangar Flight Museum

Join The Hangar Flight Museum for their annual Remembrance Day Ceremony. Please dress for the weather as the ceremony will occur outdoors. After the ceremony, the Museum will be open until 4 pm with admission by donation.

Central Memorial Park

The Calgary Highlanders have a military parade using 4th St SW between 12th and 13th Ave SW. It will be held at the Memorial Park area around the Cenotaph, Central Memorial Park, 1221- 2 St SW.

Battalion Park

The Kings Own Calgary regiment hosts this annual Remembrance Day ceremony. You are encouraged to walk up to the park.

The Military Museums

Join the Military Museums for Remembrance Day. There will be limited parking available on-site in the field to the east of the Parade Square. Parking is also available at the Flames Community Arena to the South. Note that access to TMM from the arena is through a pedestrian gate in the arena fence.

Please dress warmly, and plan to arrive early as past events have been well attended. The museum will be open after the service and admission will be by donation.

Containers will be provided for non-perishable food donations to the Veterans’ Food Bank.

Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium

Tickets are free at the door, seating is assigned. Weather permitting, there will be a march past outside on the west side of the building, immediately following the indoor ceremony.

Fort Calgary

Fort Calgary does a special service on Remembrance Day facilitated by the RCMP Veteran’s Association of Calgary. This moving commemorative ceremony features bagpipes, readings and choral singers. Entrance is free with a non-perishable donation to the Veterans’ Food Bank. In the case of maximum capacity, veterans and their families get priority seating.

Kerby Centre

This service is open to all. Refreshments will be served following the ceremony.

Canadian Pacific Headquarters

The ceremony, which pays tribute to the more than 33 000 CP employees who served, is held at CP’s Memorial Square, which is located adjacent to the top parking lot by the 69th Ave SE and Ogden Dale Road SE entrance.
